Back With The Fox Family

Hey Everyone. I am heading to Philadelphia to work for Fox 29 News.
I am looking forward to getting back to work full-time and doing what I love to do, tell great stories and bring valuable information to the public. I am also looking forward to seeing friends and connecting with my contacts since Philly is familiar territory. Before returning to the Windy City to work for Fox Chicago News and anchor “The Ten” in 2007, I was the weekend anchor/reporter for NBC10. So please tune in to Fox 29 and let me know what is happening in your neighborhood. Chicago I will miss you. To my family and friends you know I will be back to visit. I Start September 7th, so see you on TV. You can always check out my website www.laurencohnreports.com.

Where Do The Tax Dollars go?

The economy isn’t getting better, unemployment remains high, the number of people filing for jobless benefits is increasing and the government is taking more of our tax dollars. Where is that money going? It’s supposed to go to jobs and rebuilding roads, but our roads are littered with potholes. A few months after I had to shell out 900 dollars for brand new tires I found myself in the middle of the intersection and Fullerton and Halstead with another flat and bent rim from a pothole. 700 dollars later It’s fixed. So while my bank account keeps shrinking and the government keeps taking more money I wonder will it ever balance out, get back to a place where we feel we can make ends meet, see the money used for rebuilding and growth. Analysts are divided. Some financial experts paint a rosy picture ahead while others keep up the doom and gloom scenario. It’s hard to know what is fact and what is fiction. All we can do is exercise patience, hope for better times, and give it our all everyday. Still a tough road when you wonder where does the money really go?

Blue Angels Flight

It’sĀ another year of the Air and Water Show in Chicago and another year where I am reminded that I had the opportunity years ago when I worked for WLS-TV to fly with the Blue Angels. It’s one of the highlights of my 23 year television career where I have been all over the globe covering stories and at times taking on risky ventures. I have motion sickness so I was very nervous about the flight. No fear of heights or speed, in fact I welcome “living on the edge” but motion sickness is not fun. My pilot Yogi Beare was great but like all hot shot pilots, they love to toy with the media. So no taking it easy on a young enthusiastic tough reporter. It was an extremely hot day, much like today and I was sweating in my flight suit before I even boarded. The space in the FA-18 is small, confining, and well I did not know what to expect. My helmet was too big, I had a camera rolling on me and it was noisy. We lifted off the ground at O’hare like a rocket and once high above in the sky we leveled off only to feel my stomach drop as if I had just taken an elevator to the 50th floor. But what a beautiful view. Hook left, Hook Right we took off like lightning and once inverted over the Sears tower I knew it was the experience of a lifetime. Yogi -so fun, Top Gun. I would fly again in a heartbeat. Enjoy the show Chicago.
