Gingerbread Test

Can you believe there is a National Cookie Day. It’s today and to lighten up the news last night the Fox29 News Team tried out the Gingerbread Test. It’s a smart marketing campaign by Dunkin Donuts . The company asking the question which part of the gingerbread cookie do you eat first? According to Dr. Alan Hirsch, Neurological Director of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, that first bite says a lot about your personality. So three of us including myself bit the head first which indicates an achievement oriented individual, a natural leader who doesn’t take no for an answer. If you bite the right hand first it reflects an individual who tends to be skeptical and pessimistic, while those who bite the left arm have a flare for creativity and are are more extroverted. Go for the legs and you are sensitive, reveling in the company of others. So want to have some fun the holiday season, take the test. There is science behind our eating habits–who knew!

Four Loko Debate

“A state of wide-awake drunk”. “Blackout in a can”. Strong statements about the alcoholic energy drink Four Loko. The Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning about the drinks and has even sent letters to Phusion Projects, it’s maker stating further action including seizure of the products. Four Loko is equivalent to four beers and two cups of coffee. The Federal Trade Commission is calling it’s marketing practices unfair and deceptive. All this controversy after more than a dozen college students were hospitalized after drinking Four Loko. Several states have even banned the drink. But are they just as dangerous as mixing any alcohol and caffeine and does the government have the right to step in? Many are asking this question as we report this story in the news. It’s an interesting debate. Four Loko has been around since 2005, created by several college students with money they got from a government SBA loan. They are marketed to young drinkers. There are some serious dangers that come with the drinks. But at one point do people have to take responsibility for their actions?People can still go to a bar and get a double vodka Red Bull which has a lot of alcohol and a lot of caffeine. Whatever you think, now Phusion Projects is acting, taking out the caffeine, guarana, and taurine. Four Loko isn’t the only energy drink now under the microscope. Thanks for weighing in on Facebook.

Airport Body Scanners.

I recently went through an airport body scanner at Chicago’s O’hare Airport. It didn’t bother me holding my hands up and getting photographed and it was quick. However, after speaking to others, some view it as a violation of privacy and wonder where are those pictures going? It’s a story I’ve covered numerous times. Those scanners just arrived at Philly International Airport and at Newark Airport. I see both sides, but in light of the continuing threats to America’s safety and the latest attempted terror plot to send rigged devices on airplanes through cargo to U.S. targets, I say anything the TSA can do to make us more safe when we fly is a good idea. You also have the choice of a scan or a body pat down. I am more troubled by the long lines I experience at the security check points. This seems to me to be a passenger problem. People still don’t get that they need to empty their pockets of change, take off their jewelry, pull out their laptops, take off the shoes, and carry liquids in 3oz bottles. This has been in operation since 9/11 yet people forget or ignore and hold everyone up while they slowly take off these items and argue with TSA employees that they need that expensive bottle of shampoo to take to their next destination. There is no question that air travel isn’t as easy as it used to be and airlines have come under criticism for long lines and delays, but we can do our part. Travel light, obey the rules, be patient, and we all might have a smoother trip.
