Aah..to be unleashed. Talk radio is so fun. For more than 20 years I have kept my opinions to myself. As a journalist it’s my job to cover the news. But talk radio is a forum that allows for in depth conversation, lengthy interviews and analysis. Hosting today with pal Dan Proft, filling in for Cisco Cotto, we covered the Blagojevich Trial, or should I say soap opera-circus. So much to discuss as they go through the tedious process of picking a jury, while Democrats wait in the wings sweating for what will come out. Of course the delusional former Governor makes for great drama and entertainment. Also on topic, the tragedy in the Gulf, the oil spill that now has the White House on the defensive about it’s response to the disaster as time lines from the coast guard are released that conflict with information made public from Washington. Add the debate about lengthening the school day for CPS students, Senator Mark Kirk not remembering his military service, and a guy who crashes funerals just to get a meal. They call him the “Grim Eater.” Good show from 9-11. Thanks to all who called and text in.
Airline Travel
It’s a headache but necessary if you are like me and like to go places.
I have noticed recently ticket prices have jumped by as much as 100 dollars roundtrip to places like New York from Chicago. Long lines, bumped travelers, poor service, delays, it’s so frustrating. And you can rarely get on stand-by.
The penalties and fines keep going up. They want more money for our bags. I already travel light. Now Washington is stepping in to try and help. I hope it works. According to the Associated Press Federal officials are expected to announce this week a plan to raise the maximum amount that airlines must pay passengers who get bumped off an oversold flight, currently at $400 or $800 depending on how long a trip is delayed. Bumpings rose in three of the past four years and jumped 10 percent to 762,422 in 2009, the highest total since 2002. They soared 17 percent in this year’s first quarter.
The issue is overbooked flights. Airlines are allowed to sell more tickets than they have seats on the assumption that some passengers — usually those with refundable tickets — won’t show up. What travelers’ groups such as FlyersRights want is a limit on how many extra seats airlines can sell per flight. But industry insiders say that may be impractical because no-show rates vary by route, day and even hour.
MindSet

Chicagoan, Licensed Counselor, and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Susan Pallant started her company MindSet 12 years ago.
Her inspiration, realizing that losing weight and maintaining weight loss is more based on the way you think than the foods you eat.
She discovered this through her own life experiences. Susan teaches people how to handle their stress so they don’t turn to food to suit them.
For example: When it comes to stress :
Traffic isn’t going to go any faster because you are honking your horn impatient to get to the next destination. So Relax.
Managing stress can be the key to shedding pounds, keeping them off and feeling better about life in general. Susan has taught me those principals. We met in 2000 in a spin class. I’ve learned over the years exercise is one of the best stress relievers. Susan is also an amazing cook.
Today she showed me how to make Rosemary Mustard Cauliflower.
I admit I wasn’t excited to try it because I don’t like cauliflower. But to my suprise it’s yummy. All you do it cut a whole head of cauliflower into small pieces, and put it on a cookie sheet. Drizzle a little olive oil over the top, mix in fresh rosemary, coarse ground black pepper, some sliced onion and stoneground mustard, no salt added. Toss it on the tray and bake at 500 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes until brown.
Stay tuned because next month Susan will dish up another recipe.
